Whales are mammals because they are warm blooded and give birth to live babies. Whale babies need to stay beside their mother so they can learn how to swim and dive and also to feed on its mother’s milk.
Whales use their flippers to move around and their tails move up and down unlike fish. Fish move their tails side to side. Like fish, whales are stream lined for swimming.
Whales are the largest animals in the world. Whales weigh up to 30 elephants put together.
Whales can stay under water for an hour. When they come up to breath, they blow up to ten metres high of water.
There are different kinds of whales like the Minke whale and the Orca whale. The Blue whale is the largest animal in the world. It is bigger than the tallest dinosaur. It can grow up to 33 metres long and it’s tail can grow up to 8 metres long.
